Activists say Republicans can do well in Senate race

If Scott Brown’s election three years ago convinced Massachusetts Republicans that anything was possible, his decision not to run in another Senate special election reminded them that it is not.

Decisions by Brown and numerous other top-tier Republicans to bow out of contention for a special US Senate election were made for individual reasons but reflect Republicans’ new reality, much like their pre-2010 reality: No one expects one of them to win.

None of those faces will ever be in office here again.

An intelligent person with brains and guts, whether Republican or Unenrolled, always stands a chance against the likes of a Markey or a Lynch, neither of whom is likely to be mistaken for Plato's Philosopher King. This is especially so today, when even Globe editors are beginning to question the wisdom of the "government first" approach to problems. Markey is a payroll patriot, who ducked service in Vietnam and has never held a job in the private sector since his college days at (you guessed it) BC. He has never been vigorously challenged and is, in a word, intellectually soft and physically lazy. Lynch seems a decent man who is (how to say it kindly?) lacking in metaphysics. Both spout the same stultifying liberal clichés (now called "talking points") that pass for analysis in the world of in-bred "progressives." Each has been in government way too long (especially Markey) and could use a good dose of the private sector (and I don’t mean academia). But the gates of heaven (and those of Democrat incumbents) have to be taken by storm, and that means a new style of thoughtful, conservative populism, not the timid, traditional Bain-style Republicanism displayed by Romney in the last Presidential campaign.

LOL. How long did it take you to think of that great comeback. Fortunately I'm not an idiot Republican like you.

It's not a time in Massachusetts for Republicans to run for a seat in Washington based on what's going on down there led by right-wing Republicans with their gridlock and complete disdain for President Obama. For those with a short memory, the Republican brand was severly hurt recently in the election. Meanwhile, the local Republicans are wisely holding back waiting for a better climate to run. This gives them time to re-build their image. I don't think we'll see Scott Brown holding office for many years, if at all. He'll be following the Sarah Palin business model which he was destined to do. Brown and his wife have spent their lives looking good and being camera-ready and that is actually their vocation. They're in a lucrative business, show business actually. Bill Weld will always have boredom-on-the-job following him everywhere. He's a short termer too often needing new challenges and personal changes in his life. Charlie Baker has control problems. His bad temper gets in the way. I would love to see him slug it out with Steve Lynch in a debate. They both would break furniture. Kerry Healy could actually be appealing if she hired an image maker who could project her good qualities through her caring civic contributions and personal values, and to teach her not to exaggerate about herself and dwell on her early life. Most everyone came from a humble somewhere and she's no different. She also needs to learn that's it's ok to be wealthy and well educated. She just needs to learn how to communicate as an ordinary person (which I believe she is) to a diverse audience whether they be rich or poor.
