Stephen Lynch, Edward Markey vie for union support

WORCESTER — Representative Stephen F. Lynch arrived more than an hour before his rival, and began shaking hands with the two-dozen union steelworkers, carpenters, and retired firefighters sipping beers in a function room at Leo’s Ristorante.

“You ask any member of Congress who the labor guy is in the House — it’s me,” Lynch said. “And I’m proud to wear that label.”

Comments

Lynch voted against Obamacare, abortion rights, and an assault weapons ban and he voted for the Iraq War and with the Republicans on opposing a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq...I vote for Lynch every two years because he's better than a Republican and he never has a primary challenger, but I certainly don't want him as my Senator!

Just curious. How is he better than a Republican? You just described him as a Republican who happens to be a Democrat (Democrat in name only, whatever that is supposed to mean?). Is it that you want a Democrat who votes with the party on the issues you mentioned? Again, I am just curious; how you vote is entirely up to you.

At least he votes with the Democrats on some of the issues, and even if he didn't vote at all, his party affiliation increases the chances for a Democratic majority in the House, which determines committees, Speaker of the House, etc.

I'm not complaining, his voting record as a Representative fits my town like a glove.  I understand he's the right Representative for his district and my views are in the minority where I live.  But the entire state of Massachusetts isn't his district, and deserves a real Democrat.

why doesn't anyone ever ask:

"who is the guy (or gal) who stands up for non-thug, non-hack, non-illegal taxpayers?"

Your answer is the 7 dislikes  you got.  Unfortunately this state is loaded with thugs, hacks and illegals.

Union members represent less than 5% of the population here.  How about focus on the taxpayers all of us who carry the hacks and the moochesrs.

Steve Lynch-Typical UNION GUY?--spent about 2 years working, 8 years on disability, 7 years in union hack job and then left to be a politician. What a joke!!!!

I know Steve Lynch to be a person who takes a reasoned position on issues. Yes, he had the courage to oppost the DEMOCRATIC tide on Obamacare. He said it was 2700 pages that no one in Congress really understood. It was not well thought out and would result in many many hidden taxes!

It took a lot of courage to oppose that Health Care Train coming down the track! I attended a community meeting in Milton and he was roundly attacked by Party Hacks for his opposition. Steve Lynch recited parts of the proposed law that were troublesome and now we are finding out how troublesome the costs are.

He voted for a House Bill that would have corrected many of the poorly drafted portions of Obamacare but the final vote was on the Senate version (with no amendments allowed) He voted against that very flawed legislation.

I call that political courage. That doesn't sound like a mindless union thug does it?

Steve's position on Abortion is in line with the majority of American Citizens. In local and national polls the majority of people are prolife. That majority is growing. Does that sound like a non thinking political hack? It takes some political courage to take a stand in Massachusetts. He didnt take an easy way out with a mealy mouth tapdance. Again that to me demonstrates individual courage.

Finally, do I agree with everything that Steve Lynch has voted for? No, of course not. Iraq and Afghanistan wars are a disaster and he voted in support of the surge in Iraq. He has been over there in both countries showing his support for our troops. That seems to be his focus. I hope he votes now to bring our troops home and avoid future military adventures around the globe.

Steve Lynch is not a Show Horse, but he is a Work Horse.

By the way has anyone seen Senator Elizabeth Warren now that she is safely ensconced in her position as Senior Senior Senator from Massachusetts? Watch how she votes. She will follow along in line with all the other party regulars in Washington. Finger in the wind and dancing on difficult issues.

Yes, I am a 75 year old  lifelong Democrat. I like to say that I am a Harry Truman Democrat Thank you!

You are old school democrat.  Unfortunatley there aren't many left any longer. The democrat party in this state has been hijacked by the looney liberal left.  Common sense out the window.  People in this state that vote party ticket will wake up someday, but it will be too late.

Are union members so sheepish as to simply vote for whomever they are instructed to vote for?
