Jeannette McCarthy, mayor of Waltham, will not seek reelection

Mayor Jeannette McCarthy of Waltham announced Tuesday that she will not run for reelection in 2015, citing her parents’ health as her main reason for not seeking a fourth term. McCarthy, 59, said it was “a personal decision about my parents.’’ She said she made the decision after winning the 2011 fall election for mayor, telling a select few about her plans. McCarthy said her decision will not affect her current job as mayor and said she did not know if she would return to work in the private sector after she steps down in 2016.
