Dorchester charter school placed in lockdown after shots are fired nearby

A Dorchester charter school was briefly placed in lockdown this afternoon after a report of shots fired behind the building, police said.

David Estrada, a Boston police spokesman, said a call for shots fired came in just before 4 p.m. near the corner of Claybourne and Park streets.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made, but the Lucy Stone campus of Roxbury Preparatory Charter School was placed into lockdown until about 4:30 pm as a precaution, according to Estrada.

He said the report of shots fired was not connected to the school in any way.

A police officer was standing in the school parking lot shortly after 5 p.m. It was not immediately clear how many children were in the building at the time of the lockdown.

Roxbury Prep has one other location in Dorchester and a campus in Roxbury, according to its website.
