Colchester police said a St. Michael’s College student remained hospitalized Sunday after jumping off a bridge and falling 40 feet while running from security officers on Friday night. Police said the chain of events began when the man allegedly destroyed merchandise at a convenience store and was chased by college security through campus. Police told the Burlington Free Press that the man jumped over the rail of a bridge without warning and fell about 40 feet onto railroad tracks. He was treated in the intensive care unit at Fletcher Allen hospital, where he remained Saturday night. Police say the man is an out-of-state student at St. Michael’s, but they withheld his name pending notification of his family.
