Grounded, but uplifted by a complete stranger

At the very moment millions of people were digging themselves out of a blizzard unofficially dubbed Nemo, a pair of university professors from Boston named Mary Beth Curtis and Nancy Mehlem were wrapping up an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic.

But before you let envy get the better of you, consider what happened when the good professors turned up at the airport in Punta Cana for the flight back to Boston.

Nice story thank you

I return to the DR time and time again, because it is beautiful, but also because the people there are beautiful inside and out.

Our country needs more people like this gentleman.

Yes, a nice story.  But the question was not asked or answered: why didn't the ladies return to the hotel (or place)  they had been staying at?

Man, you are a downer. What difference does it make?

Just a thought, but maybe there weren't any rooms available.

Nice!  Now, it would be fabulous if anyone who wants to help those professors "pay it forward" to go and give some business to Castillo Electronics in Chelsea or E. Boston!

Great story that reminded me of a similar experience in Tobago about 20+ years ago. I didn't think it  possible for travellers to meet with offers of assistance today. However, residents of the Italian island of Giglio opened their homes to survivors of the sinking Carnival cruise ship.

What a great guy! He deserves some kind of city medal for being one of the city's best.

Pay it forward...because of the generosity of this man I would visit his electronics store before going elsewhere and I would ask others to do the same. Castillo Electronics 387 Meridian St East Boston.

Thanks, Mr Cullen! Another great piece about our amazing city and the community that it provides for people from all walks. "Well I love that dirty water Oh, Boston you're my home Oh, you're the number one place"

Anyone who has traveled to the Dominican Republic would be unsurprised to hear this story. It's too bad that the professors had to learn about the world outside the Punta Cana tourist prisons, only when emergency struck.

Fine article.  Thanks for the effort to highlight another person's generosity.
