Just as the Legislature settles one concealed weapons records issue, another one awaits action. Governor Paul LePage has signed a bill rushed through the Legislature in a single day that temporarily keeps data on Maine’s concealed weapons permit holders confidential. A separate bill would create a central database of permit-holders to give law enforcement agencies easier access to the information. The Kennebec Journal in Augusta said police like the proposal. They say it would give law enforcement better access to information that could help get guns out of the hands of criminals.
