Bill seeks photos on EBT cards

Sponsor says welfare fraud is target

State lawmakers will again look at putting photo identification on welfare benefits cards in an attempt to cut down on fraud.

Senator Kathleen O’Connor Ives has filed a bill that would require pictures on electronic benefit transfer cards, a measure she believes will help thwart people from using cards that do not belong to them.

It disgusts me to say, but I actually know people who have traded their cards for cash. Hopefully adding photos will cut down on this abuse.

This bill makes too much sense to ever pass.

Well said.  It doesn't have a chance.

How dare the state require a photo on my free money card ("FMC") formerly known as an EBT card. Any such measure is intended to degrade the FMC recipient.

The Department of Transitional Assistance. How's that for a euphemism!

I wonder if anyone has ever transitioned?

Racist!
