The man’s death is being investigated as a possible homicide, although a formal cause of death has not yet been established by the state medical examiner’s office, prosecutors said.

The body was found around 8:30 a.m. Monday underneath the northbound lanes near Albany and Traveler streets in the South End, which is a short walk to the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter. However, Inn spokeswoman Barbara Trevisan said Monday the man is not believed to be connected to the shelter.

the man’s death is under investigation by State Police assigned to Conley’s office because the man's body was found on state property in Boston.
