Renaissance Charter School on probation

Charter academy has 2 years to improve academic performance

MALDEN — State officials placed the Boston Renaissance Charter School on probation Monday, formally putting the school on notice that it must improve student academic performance or risk closure when its charter comes up for renewal in two years.

By a tally of 7 to 1, the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted for probation, despite pleas from Renaissance school leaders who fear that the designation will unsettle families, hurt staff morale, and hinder fund-raising efforts.

Mandarin.....Occupational Therapy...and poor results in Math...seems like this charter has strayed away from a school's basic mission to educate for life with career/college oriented skill sets....it seems like the school has become more of a boutique school...shame on the leadership for not keep the school's focus on the primary goals of education...congrats to the DESE for seeing through the smoke screens.

I don't mid charter schools. This story sounds like the state is doing its job. Not all charter schools are good. Parents have to check out each one. I'm a retired public school teacher.

"mind" in sentence one. Typo. Sorry.

Whether public or charter school, it all depends on the expertise and the dedication of the individual classroom teacher!
