Not saying he’ll run, Menino banters about the campaign

Mayor Thomas M. Menino smiled coyly Wednesday and leaned on his cane, a throng of cameras and reporters swarming the 20-year incumbent. They all wanted to know: Will he or won’t he run for a sixth term?

What did he make of 39-year-old Councilor John R. Connolly, who just launched his own campaign for the city’s top job?

Dear Mayor - As a Boston resident and voter - your age and health is now an issue. I am not sure you can adequately serve another four years.

He's running.

Mayor Menino, keep focused and follow your your gut on this one. Despite the negatives, look at what you have accomplished in office and make a decision you can believe in. You have the support of Boston. Good luck, sir!

Mr. Mayor, I've voted for you in every Mayoral Election you've run in. Having said that, don't be like the athlete that plays past his prime, and winds up a parody of himself. You've been an awesome Mayor, and turned this Town around more than once. However, consider this: it's time for a new blood and a fresh view. If you do decide to run though..Good Luck. Sir!

Connolly has a delicate balancing act: respect for the current Mayor, and pushing the agenda for why he needs to retire. So far, he has been respectful. The time for differentiation will come later.

Term limits would solve so many problems.

There's no way he's not running now. Connolly's early announcement has forced Menino's hand. If he doesn't run now it will look like he was afraid of Connolly, which he's not.
