Noted election lawyer killed by car

When the election returns came in, Democratic candidates who found themselves in tight races and needed a crackerjack lawyer for the recount knew to call Billy McDermott.

If it was a primary, they were often too late, finding Mr. McDermott already locked up in advance by their opponents, just in case.

Wonderful person and a great lawyer. Will be missed.

Billy was a great guy...he's going to be missed

A good man inside and out.  A big loss, a sad day.

(Bill! You and Kevin must be laughin' in Heaven to see that Mr. Grossman, the Zelig of MA politics, found a way to inject himself even into the report of your demise!...)

It's not only Democrats who are shocked and saddened.  We at Citizens for Limited Taxation loved Bill, he saved Proposition 2 1/2 from a challenge by the Mass Teachers Association during our campaign to get it on the 1980 ballot.  He was on the other side during a challenge to our signatures on the income tax rollback, and he won; we had to do it all over again the next year.  But we always enjoyed his good nature and commitment to ballot law. So sorry for his family's loss.

Tragic loss for the community. He will be missed for his humor, loyalty, professional knowlege, ... and simply being,'Billy.'

Anyone interested in Residency for Voting Purposes should read the Memorandum of Law he prepared for our group.   A masterpiece.

Thanks Bill.  You will  be missed.  Deepest condolences to your family.
