Gabriel E. Gomez makes debut on trail for Senate seat

QUINCY — US Senate candidate Gabriel E. Gomez made his political debut Thursday, introducing himself to voters as a “new kind of Republican” and making his first public appearances on the campaign trail in Quincy, Shrewsbury, and Springfield.

A son of Colombian immigrants, Gomez became a Navy SEAL, graduated from Harvard Business School, and went on to be a private equity investor.

Good luck Mr Gomez!

Why is he being so evasive about his positions on important issues? Could we be in for another bait and switch like the one Mr. Romney tried to pull? I wish William Weld or Charlie Baker would have decided to run. :-(

like? Pretty clear about the issues in the article

...what exactly is a 'new kind of Rebublican'? I am having problems with the many sub-classes of Republicans these days. At least in New England it used to meanfolks like Ed Brooke, Leaverett Saltonstal, Elliot Richardson, Bill Weld, Olympia Snowe. It used to mean persons of character intent on being a part of governance. Now there is a whole sub-faction of Republicans, not persons of character, but of characters, in the most bizzare sense of the word.

Mr. Gomez critisized President Obama as not being qualified as our commander in chief because "he never wore a uniform".  Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt led us to victory in three major wars and they "never wore a uniform".  It's time, Mr. Gomez, to speak like someone who knows what he's really saying rather than speak to the masses with twisted logic as if we're all stupid.  It looks like you see yourself as a replacement for Scott Brown (and Sean Bielat sp?)  Turning your personal military service background into show business for votes won't work.  Tell us of your plans if elected, and please; don't tell us about the Navy SEALs.  It's really disloyal and not fair dragging them into this for your very own personal gain.

Ford Falcon was a really cr*ppy little econobox.  A death trap really.

Your confused.  It was the Chevrolet Corvair and the Ford Pinto.  The Pinto would explode and catch fire if rear ended.  The Corvair would flip over at 35 mph.  Remember "Unsafe at any speed" which made Ralph Nader famous when he wrote about the Corvair?  You need to read up on contemporary history before you go after those with whom you disagree.

Who cares? Just another Republican loser.

yes, Markey is a charmer

In the current situation in the world, I would vote for a former Navy Seal over two tired career politicians called Lynch and Malarkey.

You are precisely the type of mentality Mr. Gomez is targeting.  We're fortunate that your kind of thinking is in the minority.

My first car was a Ford Falcon.

Let's see, he doesn't believe in increasing revenue to reduce the deficit, only program cuts. He used the killing of Bin Laden to levy attacks on the President's fitness as Commander in Chief. He hides behind Roe v Wade being settled law, even as its attacked and chipped away at consistently. He doesn't come out for banning either assault weapons or high capacity clips. What exactly makes him a 'new' Republican? Maybe because he hasn't come out publicly and accused the President of being Kenyan?

The sheriff is near!

The U.S. Congress needs more moderate Republicans.  Massachusetts doesn't need ANY.

Will Mr. Gomez pledge to limit his tenure in Congress (House and Senate) if elected?

As soon as markey does

Kerry Healy is confused again with her hyperbole.  Mr. Gomez' IMMIGRANT PARENTS personify the American dream not their son.  Mr. Gomez is no different than so many others, including Ms. Healy and her husband, who came from ordinary working families and attended good colleges or service academies in seeking their goals.  If one is willing to work hard, the availability of our vast educational resources is now accessable to all who choose to pursue them.  Education is a matter of establishing a foundation before launching a career.  Quite often service academy grads attend graduate business school programs and move on to success (and wealth).  The Gomez parent's dream-come-true, like so many other parents, is the success of their son.

Didn't realize that only immigrants could achieve the American Dream. In fact, the American Dream is open to anyone willing to work hard, commit to excellence, and achieve it. Even you might do so one day if you'd stop whining about everyone else being inadequate. Stop looking for things to dislike unless you're willing to look in the mirror too.

Your too funny.  You're parroting my words with a spin.  I suspect you're in politics.

If Gomez is who he says he is and manages to get elected as a not political politician, the GOP in DC will emasculate and quarantine him until he gets on board.

Direct quote from Gabriel Gomez, "Mr. Gomez critisized President Obama as not being qualified as our commander in chief because "he never wore a uniform".   Republican Candidates for president and one VP nominee: Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachman, Tim Pawlenty, Herman Cain, Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney did not serve in the military, Mr. Gomez. Please inform us when you called them out for not being qualified to be our Comander-in-Chief.   Rick Perry did serve.  Enough said.  Now, let's  talk real issues.
