Caroline Kennedy is being considered for possible appointment as US ambassador to Japan, according to a published report.
Kennedy, who is the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, is a leading candidate for President Obama’s nomination, Bloomberg News reports this morning.

To me, not speaking Japanese should be a deal-breaker. But aside from that, she'd be a great ambassador, a fine reprensative of the United States. The Ambassador is a ceremonial position, all of the real work is done by State Dept professionals, in the field or back in Foggy Bottom. The days of Embassy personnel sending telegrams back to Washington, waiting days for a specific response, those days are long, long gone. I'd rather she represent the American people to Japan rather than some old political hack.
