When every member of the state’s congressional delegation except Representative Stephen F. Lynch signed onto a brief Friday asking the US Supreme Court to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, it seemed like a case of the South Boston Democrat being a bit more conservative than his liberal Massachusetts colleagues.
But then his congressional office said it was a matter of unreceived e-mail, not a political decision by Lynch to stay on the sidelines, calling him an unwavering defender of gay rights. His Senate campaign went a step further, suggesting that Lynch — who lacks the national Democratic backing of his special election opponent, Representative Edward J. Markey — might be the victim of a deliberate exclusion.

Not to be out of step in this state of party hackery. . . but may one suggest that Lynch tells the truth and that there was a showing by the Taxawhshetts Democratic Party to have an inspired snickerdoodle for emails addressed to Lynch? Might be nice, Chubby Walsh might say, to play a little jokey on Stevie and make him look like a blubbering buffoon on an issue with lots of awareness. Sort of party unity gone amok in a conspiratorial way, just showing Hairmop Eddy Markey how much the party guys support him.
With friends like boatwrote Mr. Lynch doesn’t need any enemies. What is most important in all this is that Mr. Lynch has overcome centuries of prejudice on this issue as have millions of other Americans who, twenty five years ago, might have had different views. It is a testament to both Mr. Lynch and Mr. Obama that they have come to see human rights in broader terms. I have no problem believing Mr. Lynch and all this conspiracy stuff seems a tad demented. And speaking of demented…how many demeaning insults can one fit into one comment? Boatwrote’s looking to out-Rush Rush.
Personally I will vote for Mr. Markey in the primary but, if Mr. Lynch is the candidate against boatwrote’s friends in June, I will vote Lynch.
