AG holding ‘shred-a-thon’ for consumer protection

Rhode Island’s attorney general is hosting ‘‘shred-a-thon’’ events across the state as part of National Consumer Protection Week. Peter Kilmartin is holding the first of several events where residents’ documents will be shredded for free at the Warwick Mall Monday. His office said destroying confidential papers can help protect against identity theft. Individuals may drop off up to two ‘‘banker boxes’’ of documents. Residents are asked to bring a nonperishable food item that will go to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
