A Boston City Council committee voted 5-1 on Wednesday to recommend that Bernadette Moran Lally be hired as the body’s staff director. Lally has worked for City Council President Stephen J. Murphy for 15 years and is the sister of Representative Michael J. Moran of Brighton. “I felt that Bernadette Lally was the best candidate for the job,” said Councilor Bill Linehan, who served on the hiring committee. Five other councilors who attended the hearing but did not have a vote on the committee expressed support for another candidate, Daisy De La Rosa. The full council must still vote on the position.
