Gabrielle Giffords to receive JFK Profile in Courage Award

Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who survived a gunman’s rampage that left six dead in 2011, was named this year’s recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation announced the award Friday morning, citing Giffords’s political, personal, and physical courage in her “fearless public advocacy for policy reforms aimed at reducing gun violence.”

It's to bad this award has turned into a left wing Democrat award. What has Gifford done to "reduce" gun violence? Testify in Congress for AK Feinstein and Schmucky Schumers Kangeroo court?

More than you. She accomplishes more in one year than you will your entire sad life. She's the best of our country, and you're, well, not.

Your comment is in exceedingly poor taste, and I condemn it.

It becomes apparent that the JFK award is typically awarded to someone who has furthered a democratic or liberal cause in most cases.  There are some exceptions.  It is also interesting to note that not all of them accomplished something, but may have only stood up, or fought for what they believed in.  Which is what being "courageous" is all about, courageous does not mean the person always triumphs in their cause.

It is rather pathetic that the overwhelming number of recipients are democratic/liberal.  The implication is that only they stand up for good causes.

In the case of Gabrielle Giffords, I can certainly understand her feelings concerning gun control.  I also respect her opinion, though I do not agree with it.  She is also entitled to fight for what she believes in, that would make her courageous, considering what she has gone through.  However, declaring her an award recipient while this discussion is still undecided is obviously an attempt to further the arguments of the gun control advocates and serves to diminish the honor that has been bestowed upon her.

I believe she very much deserves the award, but the timing is exceedingly poor.  She has become a pawn, which is something courageous people should not allow to happen to them.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords deserves to receive the Profiles in Courage award as much as Obama deserved to receive a the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Congresswoman Giffords refused to support gun controls when she had the opportunity to do so in Congress. However, now that she has been shot in the head she is travelling the country with a different message. It took a very tragic event for her to change her message, and very little courage.

Canta:

Events happen in a person's life that will cause them to change their views on a particular subject.  If you are incapable of seeing that, or believing it, psychiatrists have a word to describe you:  ridgid.

With the damage that has been done to her, it would be much easier for her to stay out of the public view and work on quietly recuperating.  Instead, she has decided to work to change what she perceives needs to be changed.  That does take courage.

I do not agree with her at all.  But I do know a person with courage when I see one.

Your viewpoint is clouded.
