Dartmouth police seek charges in lawmaker assault

Dartmouth police said they will seek a criminal complaint against a man who allegedly assaulted a state representative, landing the lawmaker in the hospital for two days with a collapsed lung. Police said Representative Chris Markey identified David Oliveira as the man who assaulted him outside a school on Saturday. The Dartmouth Democrat was at the school because one of his children was attending a basketball clinic. The Standard-Times reported that Markey told police that Oliveira, 44, launched a profanity-laced attack and blamed Markey for his not getting a state job. Markey told police Oliveira poked him in the chest and pushed him into a wall. Oliveira’s lawyer called it an ‘‘unfortunate incident.’’
