The Sheffield wind-power project generated less electricity than expected last year because of lower-than-expected wind speeds on the Vermont mountain where it is located and other factors, said the company running the 16-turbine project. But project owner First Wind said the project is expected to meet power production expectations over its lifetime. In addition to producing 81 million kilowatts of electricity, enough to power about 12,300 homes, the project paid $520,000 in property taxes for the town of Sheffield, and it is expected to contribute $242,000 to the state education fund. The information about the project was contained in a letter the company wrote last month to the Sheffield select board, the Caledonian Record reported.
