Bridgeport seventh-grader Abram Goda has won a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee after beating more than 50 other students in this year’s statewide competition. The News-Times of Danbury reported that Abram won the Hearst Media Services Regional Spelling Bee on Thursday at Western Connecticut State University after correctly spelling rubicelle, which is a red or orange gemstone. Abram is a 12-year-old student at the Multicultural Magnet School. Shrenik Kankaria of Stamford finished second after he could not spell akaryote, a microscopic mass of protoplasm.
