Police release video of Roxbury shooting

Boston police today released video of a shooting Tuesday in Roxbury, which shows a male suspect firing three gunshots before fleeing the scene with a second individual, and urged anyone who recognized the pair to contact authorities.

The video captures a dramatic glimpse of a chaotic scene at a busy intersection around 3 p.m. Tuesday, when officers on patrol at Waverly and Warren streets saw a shooting between several individuals. When the officers intervened, one suspect aimed his gun at an officer, who shot at him.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that no one was struck by the round fired by the officer. Police have questioned three people in connection with the incident but have not filed charges.

In the video, released this afternoon, two individuals are seen walking side by side alongside a building, looking back as they go. Just before reaching the sidewalk, they turn around and make threatening gestures to someone out of the frame of the footage. They take a couple of steps forward, and the suspect on the right quickly pulls out a handgun and fires three times in rapid succession. They then run away, taking a sharp right around a fence before dashing down the sidewalk out of view.

Police declined to provide additional details about the investigation, describing it as “active and ongoing.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at 617-343-4275. Those wanting to make an anonymous tip can either call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
