The group redesigning Newport’s Queen Anne Square to include an installation by renowned artist and architect Maya Lin is raising money to install energy-efficient LED lighting in the park. The Newport Daily News reported that the Doris Duke Monument Foundation and Newport Restoration Foundation are running a campaign on the online fund-raising site Kickstarter.com. They aim to raise $55,000 by April 28. The group was told by a lighting consultant that energy costs could be cut by 78 percent with LEDs. Pieter Roos, executive director of the Newport Restoration Foundation, said the downside is that LED lights cost more to buy.
