It’s a beaut: Temps could reach mid-70s in some areas

Need help forgetting about winter? Today’s balmy temperatures should help.

With partly sunny skies, highs topping 70 in the Boston metro area, and areas south of the Massachusetts Turnpike climbing into the mid-70s, it’s going to be a gorgeous day, National Weather Service meteorologist Charlie Foley said.

Boston is expected to reach 72 degrees, forecasters said.

Tonight should still feel mild with highs in the upper 40s, Foley said, despite a chance of showers arriving just after midnight.

Wednesday will see more clouds than sun, with a chance of showers throughout the day, coupled with cooler temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s.

“This sets the scene for a downhill Wednesday night,” Foley said. Cloudy skies, more possible showers, and temperatures in the mid-40s, are expected.

Thursday will be the same as Wednesday, perhaps slightly cooler, with showers possible and forecasted highs in the upper 40s.

On Friday, “we’ll get a good slug of rain,” Foley said. The state could see between an inch and an inch and a half of rain in what will likely be a dreary day. Highs will likely stay in the low 50s.

This weekend, conditions will recover, with partly cloudy skies Saturday with temperatures in the upper 50s, and Sunday bringing sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s.

Marathon Monday is looking mild, Foley said. Skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will reach the mid- to upper 60s.
