One killed, four injured in Brockton car crash

A 17-year-old Brockton girl was killed and four others were injured early Sunday morning after the car they were in crashed into a utility pole near 265 Westgate Drive in Brockton, authorities said. Rosany Viera, who turned 17 just nine days earlier, died, according to Bridget Norton Middleton of the Plymouth district attorney’s office. Four others, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals for injuries not considered life-threatening. Middleton said the car crashed just after midnight when the driver lost control after passing another vehicle. She said no one in the passed vehicle was injured, and authorities do not consider it to have been involved in the crash. Middleton said the crash remains under investigation, and declined to comment on whether charges will be filed or citations issued.
