A kindergartner is dead after being struck by a pickup truck in a street. Police said Derrick Anthony Johnson Jr., 6, was struck Sunday evening when he got out of his mother’s car and ran across the street to his aunt’s house. They identified the driver as Andres Morales, 39. The Providence Journal reported that Morales pleaded not guilty in District Court on Monday to a charge of driving without a license. He was ordered held on an immigration detainer. The Providence School Department said crisis teams were being made available to friends, classmates, and school staff.
