An epidemiology professor in Brown University’s School of Public Health has been appointed the university’s vice president for research. The school said Tuesday that David Savitz will assume that role on Sept. 1. He will succeed Clyde Briant, who is returning to the faculty in the School of Engineering. In addition to his appointment in the public health school, Savitz serves as professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the Alpert Medical School. The university’s research office manages research support, provides seed grants, and coordinates intellectual property efforts.
