An MBTA bus struck and killed an 88-year-old man in Melrose Tuesday night, said T spokesman Joe Pesaturo. The MBTA’s Route 131 bus hit the man at around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Franklin and Pratt streets, Pesaturo said. The identity of the victim was not released Tuesday night, pending notification of next-of-kin. The bus driver, whose identity was not released, is 55 and has been with the T for nine years, Pesaturo said. The driver will be kept out of service while the matter is investigated, as is standard MBTA procedure. No other details on the accident were available, Pesaturo said.
