Lawyers for reputed gangster James “Whitey” Bulger wantprosecutors to turn over evidence they claim implicates two former associates in four killings that he is charged with. In a letter to prosecutors on Friday, defense lawyers asked prosecutors to turn over two postcards that a Charlestown gangster allegedly sent to the late Jeremiah O’Sullivan, a former US prosecutor in Boston, detailing the associates’ involvement. Bulger’s lawyers contend that O’Sullivan granted him immunity from federal prosecution in Massachusetts for crimes including murder. Bulger, 83, is slated to stand trial in June.
