Weekend chill gives way to summer-like weather

Get ready for a wild change of weather. After a chilly weekend, it will start feeling like summer, with humidity and potential record-breaking highs by the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Today and Tuesday, temperatures will begin rising from this weekend’s highs in the 50s. Look for sunny skies and highs in the low 70s, including 72 degrees in Boston today, meteorologist Alan Dunham said.

A warm front is set to move through Wednesday afternoon, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and all-around humid weather, Dunham said. Strong storms are possible beginning midday. Ahead of the warm front, highs should stay in the low 70s.

Thursday and Friday, forecasted highs in the 90s coupled with high dew points will kick the state “right into the summertime weather,” Dunham said, complete with possible afternoon storms.

You might want to dust off the air conditioner. Highs inland could hit or break records with temperatures likely to top 90 degrees, he said. The conditions also increase chances for showers and thunderstorms to pop up across the state, Dunham said, though most places will likely stay sunny.

On the coast, conditions should stay 10 to 15 degrees cooler, he said, thanks to a sea breeze coming off the still-chilly water.

The first days of June will remain warm, too, with forecasted highs remaining in the 80s, forecasters said, and mostly sunny skies.
