A Newport park redesigned by renowned architect Maya Lin has opened to the public. The Meeting Room installation at Queen Anne Square was dedicated Friday. The redesign is a project of the Newport Restoration Foundation to honor the late preservationist Doris Duke and highlight the importance of historic preservation. It was privately funded and is a gift to the city. Governor Lincoln Chafee attended and called the park a ‘‘nexus of art and heritage.’’ Lin, who is best known for designing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., said she drew upon historical sources for the design.
