Woman accused of Boy Scouts embezzlement in court

A woman accused of taking $8,000 from a Coventry Boy Scout troop appeared in court and has been released on personal recognizance. WJAR-TV reported that Katherine Valenti had no comment after her appearance Thursday in District Court in Warwick. The 54-year-old West Warwick resident was treasurer of Coventry Boy Scout Troop No. 1. She was charged with nine counts of embezzlement after police say another troop leader noticed the troop’s account balance was unusually low and discovered that Valenti had written nine checks to herself.
