New Hampshire man charged in toddler’s death

A New Hampshire man was arrested and charged with manslaughter this morning in the death of 2-year-old Noah York in Somersworth, N.H., Friday night, state authorities said.

Jared Pope 30, of Somersworth is expected to be arraigned Monday in Dover District Court, said Geoffrey Ward, an attorney in the criminal bureau of the state attorney general’s office.


Police and emergency personnel responded to a 911 call at 5:48 p.m. Friday from someone inside apartment #2 at 231 High St. in Somersworth.

When authorities entered the apartment on the scene, they found the 2-year-old in distress, Ward said.

The boy was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Ward said police are not currently releasing any further details about Pope’s relationship to the child.
