Hingham police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they say tried to run down a police officer with a truck and crashed into another vehicle before escaping on foot, according to the Hingham Police Department. Police have identified the man as 30-year-old Bruno Brauer, of Brazil, who was staying at a motel in Saugus at the time of the incident. On June 7 an officer responded to a report of a truck driving with its lights off through the Best Chevrolet dealership on Derby Street, said the statement. Police said Brauer, who was wearing a ski mask, drove at high speed toward the officer, who had drawn his gun and ordered him to stop. He damaged three parked cars in the process and crashed through the locked gate of the dealership with the officer in pursuit, police said. The officer ended the chase for safety reasons on Route 3 South after Brauer allegedly crossed over the grass highway median strip with his truck lights off onto Route 3 North. The truck crashed into another car on Route 3 near the Weymouth-Braintree line and Brauer escaped into the woods. The car’s occupants were not injured. Anyone with information about Brauer is encouraged to call Detective Philip Emmott at 781-749-1212, or leave an anonymous tip on the Drop-A-Dime link on the Hingham Police Department’s website.
