Mother, 2 kids escape before train hits van

A mother and her two young children are safe after their minivan was struck by a train when their GPS instructed the driver to turn onto railroad tracks, where the vehicle became stuck Tuesday night in Belmont, Transit Police said.

Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the minivan had been traveling southbound on Brighton Street when the GPS instructed the driver to take a right-hand turn just prior to Hittinger Street, which she did, Transit Police said on their blog.
