Man from England charged with raping girl, 13

Maine police said a 26-year-old man from England has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl he had met online. Nicholas Cheese of Oxford, England, has been charged with gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor. The Portland Press Herald said the girl’s father told the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department that his daughter had been communicating online with Cheese for about a year before the man flew to Bangor and rented a hotel room. Investigators from the sheriff’s department and the Bangor Police Department charged Cheese after interviewing him in his hotel room. He was due in court Monday afternoon.
