Fog will burn off throughout much of the state this morning, with showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon in Western and Central Massachusetts, according to the weather service. The chance of precipitation in Boston today is 30 percent. Rainfall could be intense at times, although projected rainfall in the East is only a tenth of an inch.

Showers will dwindle throughout much of the state this evening, as temperatures dip into the high 60s. Dew points will moderate into the 60s for much of the week, offering less humid weather.

Skies will remain cloudy on Wednesday, with temperatures in the low 80s and a greater chance of precipitation statewide than Tuesday. Wednesday will see slightly higher temperatures cresting in the mid-80s and, with showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon, Simpson said.

Thursday will see a high of 85 degrees and a 70 percent chance of showers in the Boston area. Thursday will see the greatest chance of heavy showers statewide for the week, the weather service said. Wind gusts could reach 23 miles per hour throughout the east on Thursday afternoon, as showers and thunderstorms begin. Friday will see some lingering showers throughout the state, but nothing as extensive as Thursday’s precipitation. The weekend will have a diminished chance of showers and thunderstorms, with seasonable temperatures expected in the low 80s.
