A couple were arrested on Friday after 201 bags of heroin were found in their pickup truck, along with the man’s 4-year-old son, police said. David Andrade, 49, and Rachel Andrade, 36, both of Fall River, were arrested around 3 p.m. and charged with possession with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and endangering a child, Fall River police Lieutenant Kevin Tetrault said.
The two pleaded not guilty at their arraignment on Monday in Fall River District Court, said Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol district attorney’s office. The pair were held on $3,000 cash bail and are due back in court for a pretrial conference on Aug. 2.
Neighbors had contacted police saying they were suspicious the couple were in possession of drugs, Tetrault said. When an officer spotted their pickup truck, a black Ford F-250, he followed them, Tetrault said.
After the officer stopped the vehicle, he observed the couple trying to hide something under the dashboard, police said. As they searched the truck, police found a knife, Tetrault said.
Police also found the heroin in Andrade’s purse, all while the toddler, the son of David Andrade, was in the vehicle, Tetrault said. The boy’s mother took custody of the boy, he said.
