Grenades brought to New Bedford police station

The State Police bomb squad responded to a New Bedford police station Monday evening after a resident brought three grenades found in a home in the city to the station, state and local officials said. The resident brought the grenades to the station in a pickup truck shortly after 6 p.m., District Fire Chief Michael Dandurand said. Local authorities cordoned off the truck while they waited for the bomb squad to arrive, Dandurand said. The bomb squad took possession of the grenades and cleared the scene by 8 p.m., Dandurand said. According to State Police spokesman David Procopio, there was no criminal intent in the incident. New Bedford police declined to comment.
