A Lynn man will be sentenced Tuesday for attempting to claim an Iowa man's estate while he was out on bail for committing a similar crime, Attorney General Martha Coakley, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley, and Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett said in a joint statement Monday. On Thursday, an Essex Superior Court jury found Kevin L. Upshaw, 44, guilty of several charges stemming from his attempt to claim $130,000 left by an Iowa man who died in 2005, the statement said. Upshaw has already been sentenced to prison after he was convicted June 26 in Suffolk Superior Court of attempting to steal $1.6 million from the state Unclaimed Property Division by saying he was the heir of a Winthrop woman who died in 1986, prosecutors said.
