A 33-year-old Fitchburg man was fatally shot early Saturday morning after arguing with an unidentified person whom police believe was the shooter, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early’s office.

Fitchburg police responded to neighbors’ reports of shots fired in the area and found Shaun Hibbard lying in the front yard of a Forest Street home at around 4 a.m. Hibbard was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster and pronounced dead soon afterward, Early’s office said in a statement. After being shot near the corner of Forest and Charles streets, Hibbard knocked on the doors of several houses before collapsing, the statement said.

No one has been arrested in the case, which Fitchburg and State Police are investigating.
