A man in his 20s was in critical condition after being shot early Saturday morning in Mattapan, Boston police said in a prepared statement.
Officers responded to the area of 640 Morton St. at 12:48 a.m. and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to the statement.
Trevor Harrigan said he was cooking in his home on Morton Street around midnight when he heard a commotion outside after several young adults had left a party down the street.
“I heard some yelling and screaming, mostly yelling, and then three big gunshots,” Harrigan said. “Then more screaming.”
Harrigan said he went outside and saw an EMT applying CPR to a young man who appeared to have lost a lot of blood.
No arrests have been made in the case, a Boston police spokeswoman said.
The shooting struck a chord with Harrigan, who said the wounded man was around the same age as his son, who is in college.
“I just picture him on the ground,” he said. “That’s a call no mother wants to hear.”
