Abortion opponents seek information on Vermont health clinic

Six antiabortion protesters want Planned Parenthood of Northern New England to provide information about people working at a Burlington clinic, as well as the number of abortions performed, as part of a lawsuit filed against the city about whether protests may take place less than 35 feet from the facility. The lawyer for the women said that he needs the information to establish that Planned Parenthood is indeed a reproductive health care facility, even though that is not in dispute. The women have argued that the ordinance has been enforced more at Planned Parenthood than other facilities. US District Court Judge William Sessions III upheld the constitutionality of the ordinance in February, but allowed the lawsuit to go forward on the question of whether Burlington was applying the measure evenly.
