Buses had to replace trolley service on the Green Line in Newton today when an automobile slammed into a utility pole, causing an electrical wire to fall onto a wire providing power to the trolley line, officials said.
The electrical wire fell at Eliot Station at around 2:40 p.m., said Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority spokesman Joe Pesaturo.
Buses were to shuttle D Line passengers from Newton Highlands to Riverside until NStar could remove the wire, Pesaturo said. Shortly after 6 p.m., the buses were still running, according to mbta.com.
No one on the trolley was injured, Pesaturo said.
Newton police didn’t return a message seeking comment about the car crash.
No further information was immediately available.
