While his mayoral opponents were releasing campaign videos boasting of their political prowess this week, City Councilor Rob Consalvo chose a different path. He released a campaign song.
Called “Starts with a Spark,” the hip-hop song is by grass-roots supporters and “captures the grass-roots surge fueling the candidacy of the city councilor,” said the Consalvo campaign.
The song was written and produced by Maestro Z.O.O.M., whose given name is Isaiah Gray. He is a Dorchester native who, according to the campaign, earned a Boston NAACP Image Award for “leadership through the arts” in 2011. His wife and music partner is featured on “Starts with a Spark.”
Here’s a taste of what the one-minute, 48-second song holds:
Vote Consalvo for mayor, he’s a man about the action
Elected five times cause the people saw the vision,
Mayor Menino’s stepping down, so Rob made the decision,
To step up to the plate, and make the transition,
From his City Council seat, to the city’s lead position
Strong on education, and also was the author
Of the Bill for John’s Law, and made the push for ShotSpotter
A vote for Consalvo’s like a passing of the torch
So let’s bring it to fruition on Sept. 24th.
