Detroit Zoo now home to seal stranded off Maine

The Detroit Zoo has a new seal that was found stranded along the coast of Maine. The zoo in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak said the female grey seal pup turned up near Georgetown and was found by Marine Mammals of Maine. Named Georgie, the seal could not be released because the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration determined that she has compromised eyesight. The seal arrived at the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center in March, got to the Detroit Zoo in June, and now weighs 140 pounds.
