Essex DA finds police shooting in Danvers in August was justified

An investigation has determined that a fatal shooting in August by police in Danvers was a justified use of force, the Essex district attorney’s office said Friday. Prosecutors said Scott Kehoe’s actions while wielding a knife put State and Danvers police officers in “imminent danger.” District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett said, “There is no question that Mr. Kehoe posed an imminent threat of killing or seriously injuring the officers, thus justifying their use of lethal force.” Prosecutors said police responded to Kirkbride Drive Aug. 22 to a report of an assault, allegedly by Kehoe. Officers learned that Kehoe had told a friend he intended to commit “suicide by cop,” prosecutors said.
