More than $100,000 in contributions have been raised via a crowdfunding site for Glen James, the homeless man in Boston who returned a backpack full of money.

The fund has been set up by Ethan Whittington, a marketing accounts manager from Midlothian, Va., who has assured skeptics that all the money will go to James. The website says a fee of 7.9 percent fee plus 30 cents is deducted from each donation.

James turned in a bag containing more than $40,000 in cash and traveler’s checks that he found at the South Bay plaza shopping mall in Boston this weekend. Boston police honored him for his honesty on Monday.

“I just felt that this was somebody who needed to be rewarded for his good deeds,” Whittington told the Globe.

The story of a man in dire need who wasn’t tempted by a backpack full of money and did the honest thing has generated national interest — and contributions have come in from across the country, the Globe reported today.
