Woman killed when car breaks down, is struck by hearse in Avon

A hearse crashed into a Jeep that had stopped in a travel lane shortly after midnight Friday on Route 24 in Avon, killing the driver of the Jeep and sending the other motorist to a Boston hospital, State Police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Jeep driven by Marielourdes A. Azard-Torchon, 39, of Brockton was stopped in the middle travel lane on the northbound side of the highway at about 12:15 a.m. with its lights off, State Police said in a statement.
