A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of beating a 14-year-old boy who he thought had harassed his son at a school playground. Police allege that Jean Gaboriau, 46, of Rutland, chased two youths away, beat another, and took his phone on Sept. 11. Gaboriau was arrested Wednesday. He told police his son had called him, saying he had been picked on at the playground. He said he arrived and his son pointed out the boys. Gaboriau told police he was picked on and abused when he was young and reacted accordingly.
